The Amusing History
Sitting atop Aravalli hill range, glorious Sajjangarh fort is a bejeweled tiara of Banasdara Mountain. The entire palace is made out of glistening white marble that adds to its exquisite beauty. The palace possesses a striking central court with numerous rooms and even a statue of Maharana Pratap made out of bronze. Similar to a grand Udaipur wedding venue, the palace has staircases, domes, fountains, jharokhas and marble pillars with intricate floral carvings that are a perfect specimen of vibrant art and culture of Rajasthan. The fort also comprises of halls specific to females, private audiences, men and private audiences namely Mardana Mahal, Zanana Mahal, Diwan-e-Aam and Diwan-e-Khaas.
During nights, when the entire fort is well-lit, the resemblance of the fort is no less than a fairytale castle floating in the sky. There is a museum situated on the ground floor consisting of paintings, pictures, and maps of the whole palace. The original design of the fort as Maharana Sajjan intended to construct is also on display. The palace also comprises of an innovative rainwater collection system that proved to be very useful, owing to the dry desert environment of Udaipur.
Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary
Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, an ultimate haven for fauna lovers envelop the fort. Wild boars, hyenas, sambhars, panthers, jackals, reptiles, blue bulls, spotted deers, peacocks, wild rabbits, and migratory birds are present in the park for visitors to gaze. Adding tranquility to the place is Jhar Water Hole that lies on the western side of the hill. Encircled by numerous Mahua trees, it also comprises of a small temple of Lord Shiva.
