oh right! about that new haircut of mine… (lots of pics!)
I received SO. MANY. COMPLAINTS. about not showing pictures of my new haircut in last week’s post when I talked about heading to Hair Rules in NYC for a cut by the one and only Dickey.
The reason was that the cut was SUPER fresh (in both senses of the word. hehehehe) so I didn’t have any good pictures and I wanted to do the ‘do pictorial justice. You may have gotten a quick glimpse in the Fall Into Natural gallery (and thanks to all those who came up to me to compliment the little Lola), but here’s the new cut in all it’s glory!
Because of the way the cut shows my roots at the shortest points (around neckline) and fades upwards into a reverse ombre of color, I’ve decided to call this style THE FLAME. I seriously look like a matchstick (in the most awesome of ways) and I’m totally loving it. It’s totally fitting on the heels of The Hatchback, The Damn Fade, and most recently, The Asym.
‘Since you were all OH-SO-PATIENT, I’ve been able to get a lot of good shots showing the cut on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd day hair. I really love how my curls open up as the days go on and this style really highlights that. Ok ok ok, I’ll stop talking and get to picture showing!
Straight Outta The Salon: freshly cut
These pictures were taken just steps from the HairRules front door. I was still in a bit of shock that Dickey had shorn off a majority of my hair, leaving just a quarter inch in some spots, but look at me there. The cut is totes HAUTE and obviously there was only one thought that could be on my mind: “My HAIR RULES!”. Cuz it does.
Second Day in San Francisco: waking up to a new me!
Dickey cut my hair just hours before hopping on the plane back home to San Francisco. After 8 hours of travel, I crashed immediately upon walking in to my house only to wake up and totally forget that I had cut my hair! It was a bit of a surprise to see a much more diminutive Lola staring back at me, but I loved the angularity and drama. I worked in a bit of moisturizer and used a touch of dry shampoo to add some height and volume to the front pieces for more gesture. HASHTAGWERK!!
Third Day’s a Charmer: loving that lift
Here is when I really started to see the “Flame” open up and blossom! If I hadn’t had to get ready for Fall Into Natural, I would have gone for a fourth day to really see the evolution. Ah well, this cut is gonna be here for a WHILE!
Back to Square One: a fresh wash
My coily Lolitas THRIVE in this cut, with the short sides allowing them to show off their texture and the long coils in front to have a slight hang. You can really see here how much more volume I can get in the front on my second and third days.
All in all, I’m really excited about the cut! I love the juxtaposition of the two lengths and I can’t wait to grow the front even longer so I can REALLY have some fun with it. The one thing I have to get used to though is that I use about half of the product than I have been using, so I have to be careful not to completely oversaturate my curls with conditioner and styling product.
Big thanks to Dickey of Hair Rules again for rocking this cut! Ba-da-ba-ba-baaaaa: I’m loving it.
