LOLA2.0: two years natural and counting!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOLA! Two years ago in November of 2009, I got a bit scissor happy when taking out a set of braids and wound up giving myself the gift of LOLA— a teeny-weeny afro at the time that has now grown into a soft, healthy head filled with boing-boing curls!

Last year I put together a video documenting my first year in natural, which was really a great way to see how far my hair had come since the Big Chop in terms of growth.

After I put together a video documented my second year of naturaldom, I realized that my natural journey is no longer about how long I can grow my hair and how much growth I’ve gained in my 24 months of natural (mainly because I’ve cut 10″ of hair off in some areas of my head). My journey has become largely about experience and community. Looking back on this past year of natural, I’ve traveled A LOT in the name of natural and I’ve been so lucky to see, experience, learn, and connect with naturals all over the country. Here’s a vid of my adventures with Lola in honor of my 2-year natural-versary!

It’s been a wildly fun 2nd year of being natural and I can’t wait to embark on the 3rd! Here’s to continuing on this path of learning and staying true to oneself…all for the love of natural! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOLA!
