Chances are that if you’ve perused the online hair community, you’ve heard of the Huetiful Hair Steamer. Forums are filled with ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ while bloggers and vloggers alike rant and rave about these these contraptions best described as a mini steam room for your hair. When I first started hearing about these things, I wasn’t sold, not in the least. I am the type of person that is weary of the hottest fads and slick marketing; all of this buzz around the steamer made me suspicious. So I stayed away from them, sticking to my hooded dryers and gym saunas for deep conditioning purposes.
Fast forward five months: I am the proud owner of a Huetiful steamer and firmly believe that it is a crucial part of creating a healthy hair regimen.
Why the change of heart? Allow me to explain.
1. It works – The steamer is not a conditioner its a hydrator. As the company founder and CEO, Ken Burkeen said “when you’re thirsty you don’t drink olive oil, you drink water.” The Huetiful steamer takes this concept and has built an innovative product with the primary purpose of providing the ample doses of water that natural hair needs to thrive.
2. It works quite well – Compared with my results from other deep conditioning tools, this one gave me the softest most moisturized hair right out of the box. After my first time using the steamer, my hair was SO well moisturized that I didn’t have to use any moisturizing products for the next three days!
If a picture is worth 1000 words, one of the words I would use to describe my hair after steaming is "cashmere"
3. It’s a multitasker! – The steamer also has a facial steamer attachment that comes along with it. Again, dubious little me was thinking that it wouldn’t do much. And of course, I was proven dead wrong. After using the facial steamer, my skin cleared up. It was firmer. It was brighter. Having an at home facial steamer is one of the most luxurious appointments my beauty arsenal has to offer and now that I’m hip to it, I am going to be using the facial attachment regularly. I used it with one of my facial masks from Lush and I can’t wait to experiment with making my own.
3. Passion, Science, and Intelligence – Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of chatting several times with the entire Huetiful team in Atlanta at Fro Fashion Week and the WNHS. When talking with them – all of them – you get the sense that it is passion, not profit, that drives Huetiful. Not only do they know their product line very well, but they also know the science of hair. Huetiful is more than a just steamer, its a company that offers a profound intellectual resource to the natural hair community.
There you have it, my two cents on the Huetiful steamer! Its a great product made by great people that will do great things for your hair (and skin!). You’ll be hearing more about my adventures in steamer land because now that I know it works, I’ll be experimenting with conditioners, masks and developing a skincare routine around it! Stay tuned amigos!

I read somewhere the Huetiful steamer doesn’t fold up, which can make for awkward or difficul storing. Do you find this to be an issue? Thanks.
AH. Good point. It doesn’t fold up, but you can very easily take off the hood piece (which seems to be the bulkiest) and arrange it that way for storage. Doesn’t bother me too much….
You’re making me think I should do a post about the how-to’s of steaming because there are a few learnings like this I’ve learned along the way!
Do you usually go under it without any conditioner on?
OK I get it’s a wonderful product, but is it a must have?
where are they available at for purchase?
Ok…i think you have done it…im going to FINALLY look into it.I like you stay far away from ppl shouting at their lungs a product..sometimes the infomercial reality is far too strong…ill have to check this thing out..your after pic made me go GODIVA..and that doesn’t happen easily……
